Strong Derby Presence at Derbyshire Congress

Many Derby Chess Club players took part in the annual Derbyshire Chess congress, held at Trent College in Long Eaton (23rd -24th November 2024).

In the Open, John Tompson scored 2½ (out of 5) while Justin Smith scored 1½.

In the Major, Skott May scored 2½, Carl Weighill 1½ and George Burdell 1.

In the Minor Mohinderpal Samra scored an excellent 3/5, punching well above his rating. Andre Cockburn scored 2½.

In the Foundation tournament, Derby Junior Chess Club member Nishkal Narayan Sai, playing in his first long-play congress, scored a superb 3½/5, finishing equal 3rd.
