Strong Showing at Sheffield Chess Congress

Several Derby Chess Club members took part in last weekend’s Sheffield Chess Congress (5 -6th October, 2024).

Playing in the U2400 competition John Tompson scored 3.5/5 with two wins, two draws and a half-point bye.

Justin Smith and a storming performance (again in the U2400), outplaying his current grade (1714) and scoring 3/4 (1 win, 3 draws and a half-point bye). By my calculation that represents a 39 point rating increase over the weekend!

Skott May scored 1.5/5 (2 draws, 2 losses and a half-point bye) in the same competition slightly out performing his 1814 grade.

Overall a successful weekend!

Kevin
