A Team Achieve Strong Win at Home

On Tuesday (19/11/24) the A team managed a second consecutive clear win, this time against Rolls Royce B.

John got an advantage out of the opening with a surprise central pawn break as black in the Bishop’s Game. Pressure against the un-castled white king followed and his opponent lost a piece in the complications.

Steve got tangled up in an English Opening v Slav style set up. This gave his opponent plenty of activity and paralysed White's Queenside. This Black pressure  immediately led to a threefold repetition and 12 move draw.  White could have escaped this with a speculative  exchange sacrifice but both players agreed this was not an entirely sound option.

Kevin's opponent wandered into an opening that Kevin knew well and was able to exploit that knowledge, ending up with numerous tactical threats. Eventually it simplified into an endgame where Kevin was up in material and still had plenty of pressure. His opponent succumbed to a tactic which led to mate.

I was coasting to a simple win when my opponent unleashed a series of complications, which I failed to analyse correctly. Fortunately I managed to keep an advantage and won in Knight v Bishop endgame.
