B-Team’s Relentless March - but Challenges Ahead
The B team entertained Chesterfield B on the evening of Tuesday the 21st of January. It was a successful match for Derby with a four-nil victory but in truth it was harder fought than the score line might suggest.
Skott sacrificed a pawn in the opening to gain a lead in development pressing on his adversary thereafter to regain his material and proceeding to a win in the ending.
My opponent lost a piece in a balanced middle game and had to give up another when a pawn threatened to queen.
George went behind early on losing material in a tactical melee but he didn’t lose heart. He kept posing problems to his rival who cracked and let George’s queen behind his pawn barrier with devastating effect.
Stuart solidly played his opponent down to a king and pawns endgame and won when he was able to promote the last remaining pawn.
We may top our league now on board count but serious challenges lie ahead
