Heading Towards the Play-Offs!

The C team is fighting for the top positions in the league, having already qualified for the top four play-offs. As teams retain their overall score, it was important to obtain a good result in our visit to Rolls Royce F on Thursday (6/3).

I had a quick win on board 4 against a promising junior stretching my undefeated run to ten games!

On board 1 , Carl had an early sacrifice of a knight. After the game, checking with the engines showed that he had a clear advantage.  However, during the middle game this disappeared with the game ending with an agreed draw (although perpetual check was imminent).

Andre with a slight advantage miscalculated a pawn move and the game looked to be heading for a long encounter with equal material and bishops blocked by pawns on the same colours.  His opponent low on time, offered a draw which was accepted.

The final game to finish was Matt, with at least a team draw guaranteed.  This was a complex tactical game and Matt took the initiative in the end game gaining a pawn.  Despite being low on time, he skilfully converted. In the end he checkmated his opponent, who was playing for a stalemate, with a few mins to spare.

A great win for the team to cement our position in the division playoffs.
