D-Team Victorious at Rolls Royce

On Thursday (27/3) Derby D took a trip to Rolls Royce to play their F team, this being the first of three games following the split of Division 3 into separate sub-groups (the D team is in the middle group).

None of these were quick games.

I was able to use a decoy to set up a knight fork of my opponents king and queen.

Tony was checkmated in the middle game.

On the top board, Alan had queen, rook, bishop and five pawns versus queen, rook, bishop and three pawns. However, when I looked at the clock Alan only had four and a half minutes left to his opponents fifty-four! Pieces and pawns then started coming off very quickly and Alan was able to bring about his opponent’s resignation. Alan later assured me that four and a half minutes was plenty of time!

Garry had been up against it for most of the game but was able to pull out a win in the latter stages.

A 3-1 victory was a good result for the team!
